I have been working as a freelance bird/wildlife guide since late 2006. The majority of my work is within Shetland, much of which is for local wildlife tour companies. Work for these companies ranges from guiding day trips to week-long holidays. More recently, I have branched out a little more independently (see here), whilst still guiding for companies, and this has proven to be very successful. Much of my independent work is day trips, although I have also arranged and guided longer independent trips in Shetland and elsewhere. As at the end of 2019, I had guided almost 50 holidays in Shetland (ranging in length from three to eight days) and countless day trips.
I have guided elsewhere in Europe on several occasions, and was due to guide in Iceland in 2020 and Finland in 2021, although these have currently been put on hold due to Covid-19. In addition, I have designed and arranged overseas trips for the Shetland Bird Club to South Korea/Japan and Cuba in recent years. I am very keen to do more overseas work!
